  • Chimonobambusa quadrangularis
                                  
              Also known as Square Bamboo.

Diameter 1-4cm, internode 8-22cms. Culm base somewhat square, with a tubercular surface;  Culm annulus covered with setae when young. Several nodes near base having spine like air roots around the node. Culm sheath thick papyraceous or coriaceous, glabrous, ciliate, many purple specks on its back; initially 3 branches at each node, later more extremely convex. Leaves lanceolate or narrow lanceolate, large, 10-20cm long, 1.5-2.5cm wide, hairless, primary vein convex on its back, 4-7 pairs of secondary veins, small transverse veins distinct.

Culm used as walking sticks, Culm wall is thick but fragile. Shoot period in Autumn. Shoot delicious .

An excellent ornamental bamboo species for gardening and potted cultivation.. 

Mature height: generally 9 to 25  feet.

Fully hardy bamboo plants,hardy to -15 ¡ãC ( 5 ¡ãF).
