Height 25 m , diameter 8-25 cm , internode 30-50 cm . culm erect , young culm pruinose , joints slightly convexd , some joints near the culm base having yellowish brown pannose ring , culm annulus having root primordium ; sheath round spade-shaped , its top with round broad shoulders , sheath mouth very narrow , its back sparsely covered with deciduous brown setae ; sheath auricles small , weak , linear , turned outside down , with a few cilia on sheath mouth ; sheath ligule 2-4 mm high , with denticulate margin ; sheath blade turned outside down , ovally lanceolate ; leaves large , 18-30 cm long , 4-8 cm wide . shoot period July September . shoot delicious , culm used for making rafts , or as water pipes , and construction material .
