| Also known as Moso bamboo. Height up to 40-60 feet, diameter 7 inches. Internode short. Culm wall thick,young culm thickly pruinose and pubescent; of clear bole. culm annulus indistinct.sheath annulus slightly convex with deciduous setae; culm sheath thickly covered with brown hair and dark brown specks; sheath auricles short, with developed humeral hair; sheath ligule short and broad, bow-shaped, with both sides drooping; sheath blade green, long triangular or lanceolate; leaves narrow and small; 4-11cm long, 0.5-1.2 cm wide. Shoot period in China end of March and beginning of April. A most important bamboo species both for culm and shoot production, shoot delicious eaten fresh, or processed as canned food or dried food; culm used for processing or used wholly. Distribution in China: Provinces south of Han River running out of Qin Mountain. Its area is over 2/3 of the national total of bamboos in China.
